Back pain is one of the most common complaints of people these days, which is why the need for adequate back support has gotten more recognized in recent years. There are several different ways for you to ensure that your back is properly supported, and all of these ways may help alleviate back pain and prevent it from recurring. But, of all the methods for supporting the back, perhaps the two most important are maintaining proper posture and using the necessary back support devices.
Maintain proper posture. The reason why this is recognized as the most important way to get better back support is that poor posture is also the most common cause of chronic back pain. Most people these days spend their entire day sitting in front of the computer or behind an office desk. This can result in muscle stiffness and back pain simply because the human body was not designed to stay in a single position for long periods. Furthermore, people have a tendency to slouch or develop poor posture when remaining seated for too long.

If there is no way for you to avoid sitting down for extended periods, then it would be best to ensure that you are able to maintain good posture even while seated. Always sit with your back straight and your spine in proper alignment. Use a chair with armrests and make sure that your chair is at the right height, such that both of your feet are positioned flat on the floor. If you work in front of a computer all day, make sure that your monitor is at eye level to prevent you from tilting your head up or down while working.
Women are also advised to avoid wearing high heels as much as possible because this puts your spine in an unnatural alignment. Even when you are sleeping, you should make sure that the natural curve of your spine is maintained in order to prevent muscle stiffness and back pain. In the same way, you need to keep your back straight when lifting heavy objects. Bend from the knees rather than the waist and lift with your legs instead of your back.
Use back support devices. One of the best ways to maintain good posture is to use back support devices such as ergonomic chairs, orthopaedic pillows, and lumbar belts. Ergonomic chairs are especially designed with backrests that conform to the natural curve of your back, thus ensuring that you have the proper posture even when you have to sit down for a long time. Orthopaedic pillows also feature a curve that follows the natural curve of your neck. It is hollow in the middle, so your head can rest comfortably even as the proper alignment of your spine is maintained through the night. Lumbar belts, for their part, are ideal for those whose daily routine involves a significant amount of heavy lifting.

As long as you make sure that these two elements – good posture and adequate back support – are present, you won’t ever have to worry about back pain again.
